As the world reels from the COVID-19 pandemic, demand in East Asia for UK international study visas continues to remain low, a new report says.
The report, 5 RTrends to Watch in 2022: East Asia Edition by the British Council, says that despite a global increase in international study visas in the UK, the demand for these visas in East Asia continues to remain low. The demand for global international study visas increased by 40,000 visas in 2021.
Despite this, East Asian demand for UK international study visas remained low in 2021 compared to 2019 levels. The low demand can be traced to increased travel restrictions, and increased decisions to defer international study plans until the pandemic subsidies.
As income in East Asia continues to grow, it is also predicted that demand for international UK visas will grow as well. As in the past, China remains the top market, accounting for 75 percent of countries in the region. In fact, 14 of the 16 East Asian countries are predicted to grow beginning in 2022.
As mentioned above, East Asian international students are still rather skeptical about travel. So UK education institutions can expect more questions about safety and other issues during this time. The trick, the British Council says, is to answer and address these in a timely manner. This will not only help calm fears but maybe even help increase demand for UK visas in the long run.
