5 year long post-study visa in France for Indian students

Studying in Europe has always been a big attraction for Indian students. The availability of new-age courses, world-class research and development opportunities, a chance to study at legacy campuses and enhanced career prospects have been the biggest factors for this liking.  Recent reports from the Indian foreign ministry stated that over 6,000 Indian students chose to study in France in 2022. In fact, France is the fourth most sought-after study destination for Indian students because of its world-class education and highly affordable tuition fees.

Mostly, French universities have been highly ranked worldwide as the French higher education system is considered the best in the entire Europe. And, France made this even easier for Indian students by announcing that these students will now be given a five-year long-term post-study visa. Earlier, these students were only allowed to have a two-year-long post-study visa.

This development came at the heels of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent French visit. “The last time I came to France, it was decided that Indian students studying in France would be given a two-year post-study work visa. Now, it has been decided that Indian students pursuing Masters in France will be given a long-term post-study visa of five years,” he announced.

France offers a wide range of higher education programs specially tailored to meet the needs of international students. These programs meet the expectations of around 2.7 million students, out of which 14% are foreigners as the medium of instruction is not French.

Degrees earned from French institutions are highly regarded worldwide and can significantly enhance students’ credentials and career prospects upon graduation

Compared to other popular study destinations, France offers affordable education options. Public universities in France offer programs at relatively lower tuition fees, making it an attractive choice for Indian students seeking quality education within a reasonable budget.

Whereas, the average tuition fee at the private universities is higher and is almost 20,000 Euros annually. International students have access to various scholarships and financial aid opportunities specifically designed for them to ease their financial burden.

This announcement is set to benefit a significant number of Indian students pursuing higher education in France and further reinforces the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. The decision underlines the commitment to support Indian students with their educational and career aspirations in France, providing them with enhanced opportunities for professional growth.
