It is indeed a great day for the US as President Joe Biden confidently announces the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for COVID-19 at the White House Rose Garden without a mask. As per CDC, fully vaccinated individuals are those who have been vaccinated two weeks after the second dose of a two-dose series (Pfizer / Moderna) or two weeks after a single dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen.
“If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic. We have all longed for this moment when we can get back to some sense of normalcy,” said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director of CDC.
For most of the country’s institutions, the COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for students to attend in-campus learning activities. This raises hope to regain the in-person learning experience among students. These are in-person lectures, study group sessions and athletic events, which are not possible virtually.
Rowan University in New Jersey has an incentive program for all full-time students who show their proof of vaccination until August 7, 2021. They will receive $500 credit to their Fall 2021 registration bill and the residential students will also get $500 more for their housing bill for the Fall semester.
Other institutions are also developing different programs to make it easier for returning students to fulfill their vaccination requirements to promote safety once the school year starts.
