Over 90% of Chinese International Students Continue Studies Abroad, Annual Report Shows

According to an annual report on Chinese Studentsโ€™ Overseas Study, more than 90% of Chinese international students will not give up on their studies or plans to study abroad amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.ย 

The study revealed that 91% of Chinese international students plan to go overseas and pursue their study dreams, while 92% of existing international students still want to return to their schools abroad.

Aside from that, 79% of the Chinese international student population stayed in their home country while 15% stayed abroad. Of those who chose to remain in China due to COVID-19 travel restrictions and ongoing pandemic, 54% took up online classes, while 25% decided to defer their studies for a year.

Based on the survey conducted by Vision Overseas Consulting, which included 7,893 prospects and Chinese international students as respondents, 57% of Chinese international students would choose countries that have strict rules to contain the pandemic; 54% will choose areas less severely hit by the pandemic; while 50% want to pursue their studies in countries with good ties to China.

The COVID-19 not only affected the physical aspect, but it also burdened international students in terms of their social, mental, and psychological health. Due to a significant shift in the learning styles and processes, Chinese international students also had inconvenience in their language ability and learning in general. However, the findings highlight that international education remains a priority among Chinese learners.ย
