RGU Launches World’s First Energy Data Management Program

The world’s first cross-sector Energy Data Management program is being offered at Robert Gordon University (RGU), aimed towards data managers in the energy sector, specifically in the wind, oil and gas, and nuclear sectors.

Participants of the new online short course will be able to collect data and information to aid in decision-making throughout the whole life cycle of the energy process, from manufacture through asset decommissioning.

Key Takeaways:

  • The world’s first cross-sector Energy Data Management program is being offered by Robert Gordon University (RGU).
  • The new Energy Data Management program is part of a bigger upskilling effort aimed at assisting with economic recovery and energy transformation.
  • Participants in the new online short course will be able to gather data and information to aid in decision-making throughout the energy process’s entire life cycle.

RGU is happy to offer the world’s first energy data management short course, developed to address a recognized skills shortage in the sector, according to Donella Beaton, Vice Principal for Economic Development at RGU.

Companies recognize the value of their data, but many lack the ability to gather, organize, and interrogate this vast resource to enhance their decision-making. The short course on Energy Data Management offered by RGU will assist in addressing this issue.

The training will be relevant to a variety of energy sources, making it particularly useful for businesses as well as for individuals as they evaluate their role in the future workforce.

RGU’s new course was developed with assistance from energy businesses such as Wood, BP, Leidos, and Sword, and course leaders worked closely with the Information Management Forum of the UK offshore oil and gas industry.

The university has a strong track record in developing innovative new energy courses, having previously established an online Graduate Certificate in Petroleum Data Management in collaboration with Common Data Access Limited (CDA).

The new program, which is financed by the Scottish Government through the Scottish Funding Council’s Upskilling Fund and the North East Economic Recovery and Skills Fund (NEERSF), has a handful of fee-waiver spaces available.

The university’s new Energy Data Management program is part of a larger upskilling initiative designed to aid in economic recovery and energy transition.
