International students going to Scotland to pursue their academic programmes will receive COVID-19 vaccination as announced by the Scottish government. This effort aims to protect students and others while pursuing their studies and preventing any possible transmission of the novel coronavirus.
“Based on the latest data, we estimate there could be around 65,000 international students studying in Scotland in the next academic year. I am pleased to confirm they will be included in our national vaccination programme,” said Humza Yousaf, Health Secretary.
Even if many students come from countries with successful COVID-19 vaccine rollouts, some may only be partially vaccinated. Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations, it’s still highly encouraged for all incoming international students to have their shot because the second dose provides greater and longer protection.
International students are essential to the growth and development of Scotland’s community, and it is only right that they are included in the vaccination programme, as reiterated by the Scottish government.
“Vaccination is the best route back to normality. For international students arriving in Scotland over the coming months, it is crucial that they know that they will receive all the help they require to stay safe during these uncertain times,” according to Alastair Sim, Universities Scotland Director.
With this programme, international students will also feel safe and secure amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
