Western University Releases COVID-19 Updates Following Ontario’s Announcement

As Ontario progresses to the next phase of reopening and all students return to in-person classes after reading week, Western University’s vaccination policy and mask-wearing regulations will remain in effect.

Following Ontario’s most recent announcement that vaccination passport requirements will be lifted and capacity limits for most indoor venues would be lifted as of Mar. 1, the university issued updates to students and workers.

Key Takeaways:

  • Western University’s vaccination policy and mask-wearing regulations will remain in effect following Ontario’s latest announcement.
  • As of Mar. 1, Ontario’s latest announcement states that vaccination passport requirements would be eliminated, as well as capacity limits for most indoor events.
  • When possible, booster shots are suggested, and appointments can be made at Western’s on-campus vaccination and testing facilities.

As the province grappled with an increase in COVID-19 infections due to the Omicron strain, Western took a phased strategy to return to in-person learning at the start of the winter term.

Visitors will be allowed to attend campus activities, including sporting events and the McIntosh Gallery, beginning Feb. 17 if they provide proof of immunization and follow the obligatory masking rules.

All research, scholarship, and creative activities involving off-campus participants will resume as long as the cleaning, physical distancing, and masking standards are followed.

Western’s health and safety protocols will also be updated beginning Mar. 1, including lifting capacity limits for all dining areas on campus. All Western libraries will operate at full capacity, with mandatory masks in place.

Students have access to study locations around campus, and masks can be removed for eating and drinking when sitting.

Booster shots are recommended whenever possible, with appointments accessible at Western’s on-campus immunization and testing center.
